Broaden Your Understanding of Cybersecurity

 

After great interest, the training in Cybersecurity is now back! The course has been developed jointly by Linköping University and Linköping Science Park.

The course awards 3 academic credits and includes examination components that must be approved to pass the course and receive reported credits.

The training is completely free of charge.



COURSE

In this course, 100 participants will gain a foundational understanding of cybersecurity, a deeper insight into certain concepts, and learn how to contribute to creating the conditions and knowledge necessary to enhance security awareness and security culture.

The course is offered by Linköping University and led by Associate Professor Mikael Asplund.

The course in Cybersecurity is part of the Sweden Secure Tech Hub, co-financed by the European Union.



To participate in the training, you need approval from a supervisor. When applying for the course, provide your supervisor’s contact details, and Linköping University will reach out to them. The training covers the following topics:

✔ Cybersecurity in a societal context: Historical background, new threats and trends, societal vulnerabilities, countermeasures, and legal aspects.

✔ Concepts and fundamentals: Information, communication, confidentiality, integrity, availability, assets, threat models, risk, and protective measures.

✔ Risk management: Definitions, methods for risk assessment, threat evaluation, responsibilities and roles, and challenges with excessive security measures.

✔ Cybersecurity culture: Risk awareness, human-centered cybersecurity, and incident management.

The course is conducted in Swedish, but course literature in English may be included.

For Whom?

The course is aimed at small and medium-sized companies with growth ambitions and businesses where digital technologies play a key role in the business model. Employees attending the course should have an interest and a need to develop their knowledge in cybersecurity.

The purpose of the course is to provide participants with a fundamental understanding of cybersecurity, demystify certain concepts, and contribute to developing the conditions and knowledge for enhanced security awareness and security culture.

The course is conducted in Swedish, but course literature in English may be included.

Course Format
The course consists of self-study combined with four instructor-led workshops for in-depth discussion and interaction among participants.

The workshops are held at Ideon Science Park facilities in Lund.

The course is also offered in Linköping, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Luleå, and Karlskrona through the cities' respective Science Parks. You will specify in your application which city you wish to attend the course in.

Learning Objectives

After completing the course, participants are expected to be able to:

- Describe how society and individual organizations can be impacted by cyberattacks and distinguish between likely and unlikely threats.

- Explain fundamental concepts of cybersecurity and risk management, and relate these to practical situations that may arise within an organization.

- Perform basic risk analyses and identify the need for more in-depth analysis.

- Describe the prerequisites for a functioning cybersecurity culture.

Examination

The course is assessed through:

Active participation in scheduled sessions, graded on a scale of Fail (U) or Pass (G), 1.5 credits.

A written individual assignment, graded on a scale of Fail (U) or Pass (G), 1.5 credits.

Recommended prior knowledge includes basic understanding of IT systems.

Additional Information

Contract education is a form of education governed by the regulation on contract education at universities and colleges (SFS 2002:760). The planning and implementation of the course must be based on the formulations in the course syllabus. The course evaluation that is included in each course must therefore address the question of how the course aligns with the syllabus. The course is conducted in a manner that ensures equal conditions concerning gender, gender-transcending identity or expression, ethnic origin, religion or other belief, disability, sexual orientation, and age.

The course is offered in collaboration with the Sweden Secure Tech Hub initiative. Sweden Secure Tech Hub helps small and medium-sized tech companies create more secure digital products and solutions—right from the design and development phases. It provides various resources and services, ranging from inspiration and skills development to consulting support, testing opportunities, and assistance in finding funding for specific development initiatives.
