LTH Lise Meitner-seminar: “A leaking pipe – to recruit and provide a sustainable career within academia“

November 24 @ 14:00 - 16:30

How will LTH as part of Lund University – and the academy in general – overcome the fact that more women than men leave academia after their undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees, and that it thus becomes more difficult to recruit women as teachers and professors?

Welcome to an afternoon where you can learn about the fascinating research of the Lise Meitner professors and listen to a panel discussion on how LTH can encourage more women to be recruited to, and choose to stay in, academia. LTH’s honorary doctor Johan Wester will moderate the seminar.

Short lectures and panel discussion

The seminar will include short lectures by three current and prominent Lise Meitner professors.

  • “Fire safety of Li-ion batteries – in your car, phone and home”
Adjunct Professor Petra Andersson, Department of Building and Environmental Technology, Division of Fire Safety Engineering
  • “Outdoor heat stress at preschools during the heat wave of 2018”
Guest Professor Sofia Thorsson, Department of Architecture and Built Environment, Housing Development and Management
  • “Building a (multidisciplinary) career in catalysis and surface science – what worked and what didn’t”
Guest Professor Hilde Johnsen Venvik, Department of Chemical Engineering
The topic of the panel discussion is how LTH can retain women in academic positions – how can we plug the “leak” that causes more women than men to leave academia? And how do we recruit more women into strong, sustainable and visible academic careers?

You can choose to take part in the seminar and panel discussion digitally or on-site. The event will be held in English. If you attend on-site, you are welcome to stay for mingling and refreshments afterwards.
