Saab Kockums has decided to leave Malmö in favour of Lund. Kockums’ business area manager Mats Wicksell says that Lund was more “accommodating and forward-leaning” than Malmö when it came to finding a place for Kockums to build a new facility.

Malmö Municipality’s Director of Business Development Micael Nord and Mats Wicksell both agree however, that Malmö-Lund is one and the same region when it comes to the industry operations and talent attraction.

The new property – a nine-story building, with space for 1,000 employees – is currently being built in the north east of Lund, close to Brunnshög, Science Village, and Ideon Science Park. In the building, which will be 24,000 square meters in size, the companies Kockums and Combitech will gather in modern, purpose-built premises for the development of submarines and ships.

The planned move-in is for autumn 2025. The building is being developed by Vectura Fastigheter with Saab as the tenant.

It will be certified according to LEED Gold, which requires extensive efforts to minimize a building’s environmental impact through energy-efficient solutions, renewable energy sources, and efficient water management.
