Taxes reveal: Skåne Companies Are Growing and Hiring

April 9, 2024

HD-Sydsvenskan studied employer contributions and taxes paid closely and concluded that military defense, energy transition, and smart electronics are some of the industries that have created the most new jobs in Skåne.

Swedish entrepreneurs paid over 700 billion SEK last year; an increase of seven percent, or 46 billion SEK, compared to 2022.

According to the deep dive Sydsvenskan made and published earlier this week, Skåne employers – including Region Skåne – and all Skåne municipalities – paid 73 billion SEK in employer contributions, an increase of 6.2 percent last year.

The Ideon chip design company Arm in Lund develops electronic semiconductors for mobile phones and the automotive industry. The firm has slowly but surely increased its workforce. Arm is one of the top Skåne companies, with the highest percentage increase in employer contributions paid in the past year.

Another Ideon company that has a promising outlook is the growing camera company Axis Communications, headquartered at Ideon in Lund.

Axis develops its processors in network solutions for its surveillance cameras. According to Sydsvenskan, sales as well as the number of employees grew last year.

Bjorn Hallerborn, communications manager at Axis says Axis has increased its workforce by about 500 people, most of them in Sweden.

Next to Axis’ offices in Brunnshög, Saab, a future neighbor is currently building a brand new office building that will house 1,000 employees.

Saab is doing well, supplying the Swedish Armed Forces with ships and submarines.

Sydsvenskan reports that Saab Group’s workforce increased by about 2,500 employees last year.

The demand for Saab’s products is high and Saab grows. Mats Wicksell, head of Saab’s Kockums business area, shares that Sabb is on a growth journey.
