Speeding Up the Energy Transition

We need to make a global shift from fossil fuel-based energy sources (coal, oil, and natural gas) to renewable and sustainable energy sources (solar, wind, hydropower, and bioenergy). The energy transition means that we need to reduce carbon emissions, enhance energy security, and create a more sustainable and resilient energy system.

Innovation in clean tech, smart grids, and electrification is key to ensuring a sustainable, secure, and competitive future. The time to accelerate this transition is now.

In focus when it comes to the energy transition:

🔹 Decarbonizing. We need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change.
🔹 Electrifying. We need to replace fossil fuels with electricity in sectors like transportation and heating.
🔹 Make energy efficient. We must optimize use of energy to reduce waste and costs.
🔹 Decentralize. We have to shift from centralized power plants to local, renewable energy production.
🔹 Digitizing. We need to use smart grids, AI, and data analytics to optimize energy distribution and consumption.

Accelerating Innovations for a Sustainable Energy Future

Ideon Science Park is contracted by Energimyndigheten (the Swedish Energy Agency) as one of the actors promoting and accelerating the commercialization of energy innovations.

The mission of the Swedish Energy Agency is to lead the Swedish society’s transition to a sustainable energy system. The agency works for a sustainable energy system that is secure, competitive, and has a low negative impact on health, the environment, and climate. Ideon Science Park supports.

The initiative – that we are a part of – works to strengthen support for innovation environments in the energy sector. The goal is to create environments that assist collaboration between researchers, companies, and intermediaries.

  • We have been assigned to carry out initiatives that will help promote and accelerate the commercialization of energy innovations contributing to energy and climate policy goals.
  • We contribute to making stakeholders more aware of the funding and promotional efforts available by the Swedish Energy Agency.  We contribute to the agency’s oureach to a wider target group of applicants to increase the diversity of ideas and innovations addressing diverse aspects of energy issues.
  • We contribute to increased collaboration in the existing innovation system at the national level through value-creating joint ventures.

Hymeth: Revolutionizing Green Hydrogen with High-Efficiency Electrolyze

Today’s hydrogen market, valued at over $140 billion, is largely dominated by grey hydrogen, produced from fossil natural gas. Hymeth, a spin-off from Copenhagen Business School (CBS) and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), aims to replace this with green hydrogen, generated using renewable electricity such as solar or wind. Their goal is to become Europe’s leading electrolyzer manufacturer, driving the green hydrogen revolution with cost-effective and high-efficiency solutions.

Hymeth was founded on patented innovations in electrolyzer technology. Joel Eriksson, CFO at Hymeth, explains that while electrolyzers have been around for decades, most current systems face critical trade-offs. Hymeth’s innovation focuses on alkaline electrolyzers, a proven technology known for durability and simplicity.

Inceptron: Stopping Energy Waste in Machine Learning

Today, many businesses across various industries actively use machine learning to improve their operations or offer innovative products and services. The number of machine learning businesses is growing and so is the use of machine learning. The problem is that machine learning uses much energy and often more than needed. It is also costly.

Steffen Malkowsky, Germany, and Lucas Ferreira, Brazil are the founders of Inceptron (Inceptive (creative) electron). Together, they have figured out a clever solution that makes companies waste less energy, spend less, and get quicker responses in machine learning. This way the team works for a better, more sustainable, and less power-consuming world.

In this article, Steffen and Lucas, explains how it works >>
