In response, Sweden is making significant investments to strengthen its position in semiconductor technology and build a resilient infrastructure for development and innovation. Ideon Science Park is an integral part of this national effort, driving innovation and collaboration within the semiconductor sector.
Semiconductor Sweden
Launched in early 2025, Semiconductor Sweden is a national initiative that unites industrial companies, startups, research institutes, academia, and organizations on a shared platform.
The project is led by Svensk Elektronik and we, Ideon Science Park, got to join as a key partner together with RISE, Lund University, Halmstad University, and PhotonicSweden. Region Skåne and Region Östergötland are funding and collaboration partners.
- Build capacity and knowledge across the entire semiconductor value chain.
- Strengthen and highlight Sweden’s areas of strength, innovations, and investments within the semiconductor sector.
- Develop a strategy for niche semiconductor production in Sweden.
- Strengthen Sweden’s international collaboration in research and innovation.
Semiconductor Sweden is also expected to have a direct positive impact on regional development, where the actors in the semiconductor value chain operate.
Sweden’s National Semiconductor Strategy 2035
Launched in April 2026
Svensk Elektronik, together with Semiconductor Sweden, FMV, RISE, Smartare Elektroniksystem, and PhotonicSweden, has developed the strategic report Sweden’s Semiconductor Strategy 2035. The report outlines how Sweden can strengthen its long-term competitiveness, innovation capacity, resilience, and security in a rapidly growing and globally strategic semiconductor market.
The strategy presents a potential way forward.
Our Role as a Science Park with a Startup Incubator
We are supporting the local initiatives within semiconductors in Lund, but we are also part of Semiconductor Sweden. We believe that it is an important initiative to strengthen the Swedish semi-conductor industry.
As a science park and a leading innovation hub, we drive collaboration between startups, academia, and industry to transform cutting-edge research into real-world impact. Over the next four years, we will connect deep-tech innovators, startups, and scaleups with the broader semiconductor ecosystem.
Semiconductors are crucial to Europe’s technological sovereignty and security. With over 75% of the world’s semiconductors produced in Asia, primarily Taiwan and South Korea, Europe’s industries are vulnerable to potential crises or trade disputes. Semi-conductors are essential to critical infrastructure like power grids, telecommunications, and defense systems. Having domestic production in Europe is a safeguard against these geopolitical risks. The pandemic exposed the dangers of over-reliance, with semiconductor shortages halting car production and electronics worldwide. Europe cannot afford to be in this situation again.

Skåne’s Part in the Semiconductor Value Chain
In November of 2021 Region Skåne started activities with the aim of contributing to the European Chips Act by engaging the region’s semiconductor intensive industry, ie companies that either develop semiconductor materials and devices or companies who themselves design integrated circuits. The region has a strong track record in the semiconductor industry, much due to semiconductor research established early in the 1980’s at Lund University.
The semiconductor actors in Skåne includes world leading companies, like Ericsson and Axis, strong research organisations like Lund University and RISE, research facilities like ESS and MAX IV, and several start-ups and scale-ups at various stages of development.
- Co-funded a survey in 2022 to map out the companies in Skåne active in the semiconductor sector and to identify their needs.
- Provides operational funding to OpenTech and IDEON Science Park—both of which host large business networks and possess deep knowledge of industry needs—allowing them to target efforts that generate tangible business impact for companies.
- Co-finances four Vinnova competence centers based at Lund University, all connected to semiconductors and electronics. These centers aim to foster collaboration between academia and industry and to strengthen both national and international networks.
- Co-financed ProNano, operated by RISE, as well as the development of Nanolab, which is part of the national infrastructure MyFab.
