Hello Samuel Börjesson, can you tell me more about who are you and what inspired your team to create Accumbo?

The company was founded by a doctor in Kalmar and he had this idea that you can transform the way traditional healthcare works. Especially when it comes to chronic diseases that are really common nowadays, there is a lot that can be done to treat these patients more efficiently. So, we formed our team last summer and we are now developing our product. Our team is divided into two groups where the medical team is situated in Kalmar and I, together with the development team, are situated in Lund. I work as a product owner/marketing person and I try to make sure we develop a product that fits the customer’s needs. In Kalmar we also have a person focusing on the whole health perspective of our product. She is dealing with how our product can help and inspire our users to live a healthier life.

Can you tell us a bit more about your product? What was the inspiration behind creating it?

Our product consists of connected medical devices that will synchronize data with our app, which we of course are trying to make as user friendly as possible. Our founder wanted to have an easier and better solution for people living with chronic diseases. He was looking at it from a broader perspective and saw that a lot of patients do not get the best possible treatment and that this can be done much more efficiently. By letting patients do their own measurements at home with continuous feedback from the doctor, instead of the traditional way which meant that they will go to their doctor once a year for a checkup, the patients will get a better and more precise treatment. He saw a big potential as the healthcare for these patients were not working in the best way possible, and that there were a lot of benefits from digitizing this process. We are focusing on the patients experience and ability to follow up their condition.

What benefits can I, as a user, get from using your product?

We are helping to empower the people with chronic diseases. We are providing them with the right tools to treat their conditions and to be able to follow it up more efficiently. And with the help of our product, users will have a closer connection to their doctor and will be able to get feedback much faster. Instead of going to the hospital or your caretaker once a year you can do it at home and reach your doctor whenever you want to. One of the biggest benefits with this is the ability for both doctor and patient to look at the development of the disease rather than single measurement values.
In this way our users will save time, have higher convenience as well as getting a better treatment. Moreover, we are not only giving the patients the tools, but also the knowledge to better understand their disease and how they can control it.

What kind of help might you need from other Ideon companies or possible collaborations?

Well right now we are hiring and we are looking for Android, iOS and backend developers that will help us with our app and want to be a part of this journey. We have global ambitions and we want to be a part of transforming the healthcare industry. The whole transformation is happening now and it’s not just a trend in Sweden, but it is a global phenomenon.  The European Union has stated that all member states need to focus on the digitization of healthcare as the costs are increasing, the population is getting older and the percentage of chronic diseases is increasing.

We are also interested in collaborations in regards to working with connected devices as this is one of the major aspects in our product.

What can you provide to the Ideon companies?

In the long term, I think that there are a lot on interesting companies at Ideon that are working within healthcare, so I can see a lot of potential collaborations that can emerge from that in making the whole healthcare more digital. Before this stage though we still need to develop and grow more.
