BeammWave recognized as one of the most innovative tech companies in Sweden

October 25, 2021

Every year since 2008, Ny Teknik has presented the 33 list. There they gather the country’s 33 most innovative and promising young technology startups – the companies they believe will be tomorrow’s technology stars. The companies on the list have one thing in common in particular: a strong own technical innovation with great business potential.

These requirements must be met: The company must be based on a self-developed innovation, be a maximum of seven years and not be listed on any trading venue. A company may be on the list a maximum of three times. The company is also assessed on the basis of how the innovation or processes relate to the UN’s sustainability goals.

Beammwave solves the 5g network’s antenna problem

When the mobile network is going up to really high frequencies, on the so-called millimeter band, new types of dynamically directed antennas are required in both base stations and in connected devices such as mobile phones. It is called beamforming, and so far the solution has been an analog technology that is neither fast nor optimal. Beammwave bases its innovations on research from Lund University and has instead developed a digital solution that provides better performance, shorter delay and can prevent interruptions when the mobile is in motion. During the summer, the company closed an oversubscribed investment round of SEK 34.5 million, money to be used to take the digital 5g antennas from the lab to commercialization.

“We are very happy to be recognized on the 33-list, as one of Sweden’s most innovative young companies. We are a strong and experienced team with a great idea on a fantastic market and with the intent to make an impact.” Says Stefan Svedberg, CEO of Beammwave

Beammwave’s Background

Advancements in modern society have led to an almost endless demand for fast and reliable connectivity. In the last decades this has been driven by consumers’ exponential internet data consumption. In addition to this, they forecast that the coming years and decades see a surge in machine-to-machine (M2M) communication under the umbrella of the internet of things.

Now, users expect to be able to consume high-speed internet anywhere, anytime at “no” cost while devices are becoming smaller and smaller, smarter and connected, and thus join mobile phones to form a finer and finer global connectivity mesh.
