To decrease the environmental footprint of their natural cosmetics, the Swedish company Suntribe is introducing a new range of biodegradable sunscreens in climate-neutral sugar cane packaging. This summer season Suntribe has relaunched their bestselling Body & Face sunscreen and expanded their line of safe and natural cosmetics with a new sunscreen for kids, both packaged in sugar cane biomaterial and certified with SPF 30.
All Suntribe products are completely free from synthetic chemicals, preservatives, and perfumes and are not diluted with water. This makes the formulas highly effective and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Whereas conventional sunscreens are based on chemical UV filters, Suntribe’s sunscreens contain the mineral UV filter Non-Nano Zinc Oxide, which is safe for coral reefs, marine life, and human health and provides superior UVA and UVB protection. In addition to Zinc Oxide, the sunscreens only contain completely natural ingredients such as organic waxes, oils, butter, and minerals.
Suntribe’s minimalistic product philosophy is a reply to the current state of research on sunscreen ingredients. 63% of the ingredients found in the most common sunscreens are classified as dangerous for people, animals or nature (Bohman, 2016) and a recent study by the FDA has confirmed that seven chemical UV-filters enter the human bloodstream even after a single application (JAMA, 2020). Suntribe’s sunscreens represent the new generation of safe and sustainable sun protection. Compared to an industry average of 27 ingredients, Suntribe only uses the number of components needed to ensure maximal functionality and sun protection. Therefore their products only feature three to nine natural and organic ingredients.
