Building on AMYNA: A National Effort to Accelerate Defense Innovation

June 10, 2026

Sweden has no shortage of innovative companies developing technologies with the potential to strengthen both society and national security. From AI and cybersecurity to autonomous systems, advanced sensors, and communications technologies, solutions are emerging every day that could help address some of the country’s most pressing challenges.

The challenge is not innovation itself. The challenge is getting these innovations into use.

As security conditions in Europe continue to evolve, the need to accelerate the adoption of strategic technologies has become increasingly urgent. Yet many companies developing dual-use technologies—solutions with both civilian and defense applications—still face significant barriers when trying to navigate the defense sector, understand procurement processes, or connect with relevant stakeholders.

At Ideon Science Park, this challenge has already been a key focus through Amyna, a platform established to accelerate defense innovation by bringing together startups, industry, academia, public authorities, and defense actors. The goal is simple: create faster pathways for technologies that can strengthen Sweden’s preparedness, resilience, and defense capabilities.

Now, that work is being reinforced through TACTIC, a national initiative bringing together Kista Science City, Sting, LEAD, Ideon Science Park, and Uppsala Innovation Centre. Supported by SEK 35 million in funding, including contributions from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth (Tillväxtverket), the initiative aims to create a coordinated national support structure for dual-use innovation.

Together, the partners represent some of Sweden’s strongest innovation ecosystems. By combining expertise, test environments, networks, and direct connections to end users, they will help more companies understand the defense market, meet regulatory requirements, validate solutions, and scale both nationally and internationally.

“Sweden has world-class innovation capabilities. To meet today’s security challenges, we need to ensure that more of these innovations can reach the organizations that need them most. Through initiatives like Amyna and TACTIC, we are building stronger bridges between innovation and implementation,” says Anders G. Nilsson, CEO, Ideon Science Park.

The ambition is clear: strengthen Sweden’s ability to transform technological innovation into practical solutions that enhance preparedness, security, and long-term competitiveness.
