Sweden’s National Semiconductor Strategy 2035 Has Been Launched

Svensk Elektronik, together with Semiconductor Sweden, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), RISE, Smartare Elektroniksystem, and PhotonicSweden, has developed the strategic report Sweden’s National Semiconductor Strategy 2035. The report outlines how Sweden can strengthen its long-term competitiveness, innovation capacity, resilience, and security in a rapidly growing and globally strategic semiconductor market.

The strategy points to a possible path forward. By developing leadership in strategically important capabilities, promoting innovation, and creating better conditions for industrial expansion, Sweden can take a stronger position in semiconductors. At the same time, this contributes to Europe’s technological sovereignty and long-term security.

The work to develop the strategy has been part of the national Semiconductor Sweden initiative, which is co-financed by the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth’s semiconductor initiative, with Svensk Elektronik serving as host organization. The initiative brings together industry, academia, and the public sector to strengthen Sweden’s position in semiconductors and increase collaboration within the ecosystem, with the goal of building long-term competitiveness, innovation, and resilience.

The work behind the report is based on broad anchoring within the semiconductor ecosystem and has been carried out through roundtable discussions, interviews, surveys, and other contributions. Among other things, the report presents a proposal for a long-term innovation program in which the Swedish government would invest SEK 10 billion over 10 years through Vinnova, an investment to be matched by a corresponding commitment from industry within the framework of a public-private partnership.

As part of the initiative, the pamphlet Det osynliga guldet (The Invisible Gold) has also been produced. It highlights, in an accessible way, the crucial importance of semiconductors for societal development and the economy.

“We have succeeded in achieving broad consensus on a complex issue. It is important for the actors in the ecosystem to have a unified view of what we should prioritize,” says Elisabet Österlund, Secretary General of Swedish Electronics.
