OpenTech Talks: The Rise of Microelectronics in Skåne

OpenTech Talks: The Rise of Microelectronics in Skåne

From Historical Roots to Future Competitiveness

Microelectronics is one of the most strategic technologies shaping Europe’s future. From semiconductors and advanced radio hardware to sensors and embedded systems, the ability to develop and scale these technologies is increasingly linked to competitiveness, innovation, and technological sovereignty.

Skåne’s microelectronics ecosystem did not emerge overnight. It grew from bold industrial decisions, close collaboration with academia, and a strong culture of engineering that continues to drive innovation in the region today.

At this OpenTech Talks, we’re bringing together perspectives from industry, startups, and regional development actors to explore the evolution of Skåne’s microelectronics ecosystem – and how it can continue contributing to Europe’s technological future.

Speakers include representatives from:

  • Ericsson – on four decades of radio hardware research in Lund and the role of microelectronics in future telecom systems.
  • BeammWave / AlixLabs – on building semiconductor startups and scaling deep-tech innovation in Skåne.
  • Region Skåne – on strengthening Europe’s microelectronics ecosystem through regional collaboration, and how regions can support the development of strategic technologies.

The event is part of a broader initiative connecting European regions working with microelectronics and semiconductors. As geopolitical developments reshape global supply chains, stronger collaboration between European innovation ecosystems is becoming increasingly important.

Delegations from other European regions visiting Skåne – including representatives from the Silicon Alps semiconductor cluster – will join the discussions to explore opportunities for knowledge exchange, partnerships, and future collaboration.

After the seminar, participants are invited to continue the conversation during a networking session, bringing together companies, researchers, policymakers, and international guests working across the microelectronics value chain.

Seats are limited and we recommend registering early. This event is free and open to all, made possible thanks to contributions from Region Skåne.

Who should attend?

This event brings together people across the microelectronics ecosystem who want to better understand the development of this strategic technology area in Skåne and Europe.

It is particularly relevant for:

  • Companies working within deep-tech, microelectronics, semiconductors, sensors, embedded systems, or hardware development (including start-ups and scale-ups)
  • Researchers and students in engineering, electronics, nanotechnology, and related fields
  • Innovation actorscluster organizations, and incubators supporting deep-tech companies
  • Regional development actors, public sector representatives, and policymakers working with industrial competitiveness and strategic technologies

The event also welcomes international guests and delegations from European regions interested in collaboration within the microelectronics value chain.
